SERVICE AT THE MISSION SINCE
2014
In 2012 I got involved with the Norfolk Rescue Mission as a volunteer for the Jail Ministry, under the direction of Pastor Ed Felgate. I became more interested in this ministry, so about one year later, I started serving on the Board of the Mission. In 2014 I came on staff full-time. In December of 2017, after Pastor Ed’s retirement from the Jail Ministry, I became the Director of Jail Ministries at Norfolk Rescue Mission. I am blessed to be here with a great team working to bring the saving Gospel to many.
I am also very blessed with the family God has given me. My wife Laura and I have been married for over 31 years. Our oldest daughter, Rachel, and is married to Jake. Next is Beth who is married to Wes; they have Ruth and another on the way (Esther). We also have Amelia 12 and Josiah 11, keeping us hopping at home.
The Mission is a team; we each try to help others in this challenging ministry. I make jail visits to area local county jails, while directing a team of volunteers who are doing the same. At the Mission, with God’s help, I also help to teach classes to our guests in our programs. Every day brings blessings and challenges—reminders that we are weak, but God is strong.
I enjoy our team. Whenever one of the staff leaves for a vacation or conference, we can almost expect someone to have played a practical joke on the one who is missing. We never know what we might find in our office upon returning.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.”
